fast food nation blog 3: its all about the money

In the last part of fast food nation it is clearly pointed out that the fast food industry are corrupt people that only car about how much money they cane make at the fastest way possible to do it. there is a lot that goes into every Burger that is sold and every french fry that is fried. form the farm, because of the stress that the food industry puts on farmer it is very hard for them to be able to sell a quality product and still make a profit- its hard enough to not sell a quality product. however because the legislator has its hands in the pocket of these corporations its hard for farmers to do anything about it. for that reason the most questionable beef comes form the united states. strikes and protest ave been held in foreign countries protest the import of u.s. meats they believe that feed any thing to our cows, pump them with devastating hormones, and because of that they are infected with the mad cow disease. which is not entirely false. in spite, more often than not these poor malnutrition animals are the one that are chosen by the fast food industry and the same meats that are distributed in the school cafeteria. because these cows are bigger and cheaper. which and lead to an pandemic outbreak of E.coil diseases, even animals that appear to be health could have come in contact with a the disease. between contents of manure, during slaughter, or subsequent processing, there is no telling what is really in the meat. Laws have been made to attempt to keep food safe, however the legislator of these laws receives payoffs by the food industry. as a effect many times meat cane go by infected. for example if there is a sick cow on the farm that may be infected, that cow cannot be tested until it has been slaughtered- probably because they don't want the news to leak out to the rest of the world that U.S. cows are in fact infected. processes like this make it hard to keep clean safe meat at the dinner table and behind the counter. However in the past when problems have presented its self, and customer step up and said something about it. the corporation did some thing about it and fast. like when McDonald's USED to sell there food in cardboard boxer that were bad for the environment and activists step up and made it an issue. McDonald's made it there business; thus we have the paper bags that are biodegradable, they have today. as long as there money is protected big corporations like McDonald's will do nothing to change the quality of the food helping the farms or anybody else for that reason. as long as their money is safe...

The spread of BSE(mad cow disease) in Europe has revealed how secret alliances between agribusiness and government can endanger the public health. "the desire for profit can over rule every other consideration." how dose this make you feel about the safety of the foods that you eat? what can you do to pressure the big food corps. to ensure better quality and cleanliness of the product, and provide better treatment for worker? What are you willing to do for the safety of the food for you and your family?

Do you believe that in spite of the high cost of raising "health cows" that the farm industry could and would find/make away to do it; IF the demand was high enough?

fast food nation blog 2: making life long layal customers

In reading the second part of Eric Schlosser's novel, Fast Food Nation, it was depicted how the fast food advertising industry purposely attempt to attract a younger audience to their corporations. Through under handed schemes to make little children life long buyers committed to their product. According to What Kids Buy and Why(1997), studies show that until about age six; about 80% of children's dreams are about animals- round soft creatures like barney. For this reason fast food corporations purposely design their mascots to model the "animals" that children dream about. This way the children will feel that they have "connection" to the mascots. this also dose something to the children that make they have a "need" for their product. urge influences that children to beg and nag the parents. this is what the industry wants to utilizes the children and use them as leverage, to bring more customer into there store. for instance, one child can nag his grandparents to the point that in order to appease the children the grandparent will take their grandchild to MacDonald sit down and eat. this brings in 3 customer to the corporation. this would happen all trough out the child life time and now is a place that the family can come and fell like they have a special relationship with MacDonald. this is also stressed through the way that their commercials ads are made. to create a felling that the corporation is a "trusted friend." a place of refuge that reminds them of there childhood, a place that reminds them, when they were young and would come and eat a nice meal with grandma and grandpa. from cradle-to-grave advertising. the younger, and more times that they get their products in the minds of these children the greater chance of them being loyal to their corporations.

How do you feel advertiser make there mascot to fit the types of "animals" that childran dream about, to haunt their dreams so that they may have a need or a strong urge for their products.

whos job is it to protect what the child is exposted to? the government? parents? or should we be able to trust the advertisers to have our best intrest at heart?

Fast Food Nation blog 1

Isn't it ironic that Cheyenne Mountain is so impregnable but fast food is the only thing that is able to freely bypass the guards and the security in order to bring in the pizza food that is doing the most damage to the facility, the human body facility. In a way, the wide stretching effects of what fast food does is worst than any kind of attack that a bomb could do.
The fast food is killing minds and bodies; killing them from the inside out. The Cheyenne Mountain scientists' minds and the general population's bodies need to be in the best shape so that they can make the best decisions possible. The food industry is dumping junk in to the food and that junk is being put into the ignorant people that don't know how much damage they are inflicting onto (or into) their bodies.
